Amidst the highs and lows of content, uses and sentiments expressed using the platform, Twitter, there has also been slow growth of the same platform – to the point that Twitter is in the process of cutting as much as 8 % of its worker-base to ease the cost of flat-lined growth.
We could get into the labour issue here of course (and all the assumptions tied up therein), but instead I just want to point out that librarians, information dissemination companies and organizations (libraries and for-profit institutions) all use Twitter to push content.
Of course there is Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Snapchat as alternatives – but all except for one of these companies is very image-centric in its bias and content distribution. Facebook seems to be the only company that allows for significant text-based posts (articles, essays etc), but even Facebook has tweaked its platform to handle increased video content (news, or…whatever).
Where else might we go to push content relevant to libraries, information centers, academic environment etc that in their very nature use and circulate A LOT of text-based material (even if digital)?
Please discuss.
How do we tweak, build or find a social media platform that allows for decent text-based content models?
Thank you for reading.
